Time-Out for Anxiety

Ever have one of those moments when something was camouflaged as a small mishap, to shifting you into a full out anxiety attack?

Well… you’re not alone, here’s my story and how I made the shift to come out on the other end feeling alive more than ever.

Waking up for a 5:30am train can feel rough, especially on a morning as a woman, that T.O.M is here.

A few days before, I was casted to be a participant for a Good Morning America Segment with  Deepak Chopra for Meditation. Long story short, I have good friends who put out the word that they were casting, and I just so happened to be in alignment for this opportunity.  Yay Meg!

I arrived at Times Square and was directed to wait in a line. Meanwhile, as I wait,  I met two other girls who I bonded with very quickly and we were all excited to meet Deepak.

As we stood in the cold for almost an hour, we were called inside and told we had missed the Live-Stream portion. There was already a group of people ahead of us who participated.

There was still hope, for there was a second portion of the show, but I actually did not get in due to it being a small studio space.

My reaction was calm and cool and I accepted it. Hung out for a bit, then said goodbye to my yogi pals and everyone else.

I bundled up, walked outside and around the corner heading to the Shuttle, when BOOM! FULL ON ANXIETY ATTACK! “What the F***?”

I went from being confident and excited around people, to being in complete disarray and just wanted to get home and feel comfort.

I realized I stepped out of my comfort zone, and there was an after shock that I needed to gain power over. So I used what I knew best, gave myself a time out, and began to focus on my breath.

I am sharing this with you, because you too can stop your anxiety in it’s tracks with a simple time-out strategy and self-awareness.

You have the power to step into your control and train your brain to calm down rapid thoughts, and still continue on with your day with a positive attitude.

It’s possible to catch the mind running a muck, and put a leash on it. Providing the space to take action is key, and you don’t have to learn to do it alone.

How have you dealt with your anxiety, and where in your life would you like to have more control over it? Please leave a comment below, and I’d be happy to answer any questions.
